Small Group Community Acupuncture in Asheville: “Healing is a Team Sport”

Updated: May 14

In the heart of downtown Asheville, North Carolina, amidst the vibrant energy of our city, lies Synthesis Medicine Acupuncture. Here, amidst the hustle and bustle, something special is happening: small groups of 2-3 individuals are coming together to experience the profound benefits of community-style acupuncture.

Community acupuncture isn't just about receiving treatment; it’s a way of utilizing the strengths of a group dynamic to facilitate healing while offering financially accessible treatment. It’s also perfect for those brand new to acupuncture and want to see what it’s like (some spoilers: in addition to relief from symptoms, acupuncture is nearly painless and extremely relaxing). In a cozy setting, you will be supported by the gentle touch of acupuncture needles and camaraderie of your fellow participants.

What is Community Acupuncture?

Community acupuncture is rooted in the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where the focus is on restoring balance and harmony within the body to support your body’s system and bring relief to a wide range of symptoms. In the community-style setting, multiple people receive acupuncture simultaneously in a shared space, which not only creates a sense of community but also makes treatment more accessible and affordable.

What’s the difference between community acupuncture and individual sessions?

  1. Length of time. While in an individual setting, you receive an entire hour of time and attention, in a community-style setting, the initial intake process and point choice and insertion is very quick and straightforward. You will then rest with needles in place for 30 minutes while your acupuncturist works with other patients quietly in the same room.

  2. Simple treatments. Community-style acupuncture is done with minimal needles and without adjunct therapies such as Cupping, Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage), Craniosacral Therapy, Moxibustion, Herbal, Diet, and Lifestyle recommendations. Additional therapies are only possible in individual sessions due to both time constraints and privacy.

  3. Shared space. You will share a quiet, comforting space with 1-2 other individuals.

Benefits of Community Acupuncture

Just like individual acupuncture treatments,  acupuncture in the community setting can address a wide range of health concerns. From emotional regulation to pain relief, digestive issues, and metabolic support, the benefits are vast and varied. Imagine finding relief from chronic pain while sitting alongside others who share similar struggles, offering each other silent support and understanding.

Affordable Acupuncture = Accessible Acupuncture

By treating multiple people simultaneously, acupuncture becomes accessible to a broader range of individuals, breaking down cost barriers to healthcare. Community acupuncture embodies the spirit of inclusivity and connection. As my colleague, Dr. Sarah Petersen loves to say, “healing is a team sport.” Community acupuncture is a wonderful way to experience this.

So, if you find yourself in downtown Asheville, craving a sense of community and seeking holistic healing, please consider joining a small group session at Synthesis Medicine Acupuncture. Together, we will embark on a journey towards wellness, one acupuncture needle at a time.
